The project concerns the upgrading of the existing WTP in San Bonifacio that treats water coming from the artesian aquifer.
The groundwater contains high values of organic halogen compounds and arsenic due to the industrial activities in the area surrounding the wells.
Main aim of the assignment is to upgrade the WTP and have water compliant with the existing Italian law.
The sound experience of Studio Altieri in solving similar situations, suggested the use of activated carbon filters.
The treatment process used is the following:
1. chemical oxidation and subsequent removal by physical means;
2. catalysis with zeolites and pirolusiti and subsequent filtration;
3. biological oxidation;
4. flocculation of arsenate with ferric salts;
5. adsorption (refining) on a multi-layer filter of granular activated carbon (GAC).
